BABY MOT
PACKAGE

Our Baby MOT package offers a comprehensive assessment and follow-up programme of either 3 or 6 sessions, to check your baby's gross motor skills at key developmental stages.

Sessions can be taken any time within 12 months of purchase.

As parents, we love giving our babies opportunities to explore the world—whether that’s through baby classes, swimming sessions, sensory play, or simply spending time with other families. These experiences are not only fun, but they also offer a lovely chance to connect with fellow parents, share stories, and naturally start chatting about how our little ones are growing and developing.

It’s during these moments that you might begin to notice differences—perhaps your baby isn’t quite hitting the same milestones as their peers, or they’re moving in a way that seems a little different. Maybe they’re hesitant to take the next step in their development, or you're simply seeking reassurance as a soon-to-be parent wanting peace of mind from the very beginning.

If any of this resonates with you, the RVCP Baby MOT is here to help.

What to Expect During a Baby MOT Session

Your first session begins with a relaxed and supportive chat. We’ll take the time to get to know you and your baby, gathering a detailed history that includes your baby’s likes and dislikes, how they respond to new people, any calming techniques that work well, and important background details such as birth history, medical conditions, social circumstances, and feeding habits. This conversation usually takes up the first half of the session, giving your baby time to settle and feel comfortable.

From there, we move onto the floor for play-based observation and interaction. Using songs, games, and lots of gentle encouragement (we’re experts at being silly when needed!), we gradually build trust and guide your baby through functional movements. Once they’re happily engaged, we carry out a gentle, pain-free physical assessment.

What We Look For

As part of the Baby MOT, we’ll screen for the following:

  • Foot deformities

  • Hip dysplasia

  • Torticollis or reduced range of movement

  • Head shape concerns (e.g. plagiocephaly)

  • Neurological conditions

What Happens Next

After the assessment, your physiotherapist will take time to:

  • Answer any questions you may have

  • Provide clear explanations of any concerns or suspected conditions

  • Teach you simple, effective exercises to support your baby’s development

  • Make onward referrals if needed (to paediatrics, orthopaedics, neurology, GP, etc.

We want you to leave feeling confident, informed, and supported.

Follow-Up Sessions

During follow-up appointments, we’ll check in with you to see how things are going—whether you’ve noticed any new movement patterns, had any concerns, or received new information from other healthcare professionals. We’ll always protect time for your questions before reassessing your baby’s gross motor skills and building on their treatment plan with further guidance and exercises.
